Roller set and Pin curls: Take two
06:40:00
After a couple of weeks of enjoying my braids, I decided to get back into the wash day game and take down the braids. Here's how my #washdayexperience went:
1. Take down: I was pleasantly surprised to find that it took me about 30-45 minutes to take down the braids that I did. I honestly thought it would take longer, but since I didn't do so many, it was a breeze!
2. Detangled: It took me another 20-30 mins to detangle my whole head. For this I just grabbed small sections on my head, sprayed it with a little water and added Mega Growth Detangling conditioner to give it slip and make the process easier.
3. Deep Conditioned: I deep conditioned with Mega Growth Deep Conditioner. I covered my hair with saran wrap and a shower cap (this helps to create more heat for penetration), and let it sit for 2 hours.
4. Shampooed: Now I know that we are on a co-wash challenge, but I had a lot of build up on my scalp from products and sweat and they needed to go! I used Motions Lavish Conditioning Shampoo for this.
5. Conditioned: I conditioned with Mega Growth Anti Breakage Detangling conditioner, instead of the Pro-Growth Complex because the anti breakage conditioner contains more moisture while the pro growth is more protein-based. Since the shampoo already has protein in it (plus it dried out my hair), I opted for this conditioner.
6. Leave-ins: I blotted my hair with a T-shirt to soak up some of the excess water, but I still needed my hair wet in order to set it. I applied Mega growth oil mixed with Castor oil, and Fantasia IC serum and set my hair with 1" magnetic rollers. This gives a better curl pattern than the larger ones I normally use.
Results.
The pin curls were a bust. It turned out better than the first time I did it, but they are still not picture worthy. I ended up wrapping my hair the second day to loosen the curls. Oh well, I'll keep trying, I won't give up just yet. After all, there was a time I didn't know how to wrap my hair...
How did your wash day go?

Your hair looks so nice. Sorry the pin curls were a bust.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! I'll keep trying...
DeleteYour roller set looks great, I really need to learn before the end of the year.
ReplyDeleteThank you Candice! Don't worry, I'm sure you'll rock these rollers.
DeleteYour roller sets look really nice and I love how the smaller rollers give a more curly and bouncy look. I love love roller sets. It used to be my go to style prior to my hair journey but I haven't tried it since I started my hhj. Hopefully I will find some and do a set too!
ReplyDeleteThanks love! You can find them anywhere really. I got these smaller ones at a local market. Look for the attachment/weave section, they should have it. you don't need to go to a store or supermarket.
DeleteYour curls are really pretty! Did you rollerset your hair and then pin curl it after taking the rollers out? I like how the curls aren't tight at the root.
ReplyDeleteThank you Melanie! Yes, I did the pin curls after taking out the rollers. but I finger combed and separated the curls at the root before doing so.
Deleteyour curls look lovely tho!

ReplyDeleteThanks Tomes!
DeleteNice roller set results! I like the light brown colour at the ends of the curls :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks! :)
DeleteYour curls came out beautifully! Do you use a conditioner or oils on your hair before take down? I find that it makes it so much easier to detangle when I use an oil or braid spray before take down.
ReplyDeleteThanks Lydz! No I don't use anything actually. thanks for the tip!
