My First Self-Relax

01:55:00

One of the major causes of hair breakage and loss of length is relaxer day. Relaxers break down the protein in your hair in order to straighten it, so the mistakes that our dear stylists make is putting the relaxer all over your head, instead of on only the new growth. The funny thing is that, it's written on the boxes of the relaxers! "DO NOT PUT relaxer on whole head, except it is virgin hair."

Despite this, I still relaxed my whole hair for years!
Other mistakes stylists make occur way before the relaxer application.
1. Improper detangling of the hair: This could also be our fault too.
2. Improper basing of the scalp: This usually leads to burning of the scalp.3. Combing the relaxer through the hair: Again, it is written on the relaxer.

Because of all these, the hair can be terribly damaged and broken that you leave the salon with the same length as last time, wondering where all that new growth went to.
After discovering all this on different blogs and videos, I decided to relax my hair by myself and after going through several videos on YouTube, I embarked on my quest to healthy relaxed hair.
Because it was my first time, it took hours to finish all the processes: Detangling, basing, relaxer application, neutralizing and deep conditioning, adding my leave-ins, drying, and finally, flat ironing. Phew! What a day!

Sadly, there are no pictures of the processes because I started late and I was in a hurry to get the relaxer on my hair before it got too dark (no light). Thankfully, PHCN graced us with their presence long enough for me to dry and flat iron my hair. These are the results:

I apologize for the quality of this picture. It was dark already and the lighting in my room is very poor.

I took the last two pictures the next day in broad daylight. My hair did come out a little under-processed, but that's because I was in a hurry. I'll definitely be doing this again, BUT in broad daylight: I'm not taking any chances!
