Wash Day With Design Essentials

02:47:00

I've heard so many good things about Design Essentials, and I've actually had these products for a while now but I've never gotten around to using them. They have a Shampoo and Conditioner that's tailored for natural hair so I was pretty stoke about that. Here's how my wash day using only design essentials went:

Products used:
- Design Essentials Deep Fortifying Mask
- Design Essentials Almond & Avocado Sulphate-free Shampoo
- Design Essentials Almond & Avocado Conditioner
- Design Essentials HCO Bamboo & Silk Leave in Conditioner
- Design Essentials Argan Oil Mist

-Deep Conditioned: I parted my hair into twelve mini sections and put them in chunky twists. Here's a tip: if you have natural hair, trust me, you want to do EVERYTHING in sections!   Whether you're washing or even just combing your hair, you need to work in sections. This eliminates the "frustration" that comes with natural hair (like tangles, single strand knots, etc) and pretty much makes the entire process faster. I applied the DE deep conditioning mask to each section, covered it in a shower cap, and left it in overnight. This makes my hair super soft and easy to manage in the morning.

Detangled: using my fingers and a wide toothed comb, I detangled my entire head following the sections I created. I first remove any knots or tangles with my fingers, before using the wide toothed comb to detangle. (Tip: comb from the ends of your hair upwards to avoid breakage).

Shampoo: After detangling, I twisted each section again to keep it tangle-free while washing my hair. I washed my hair twice with the DE sulphate free shampoo, and rinsed with warm water to open up the cuticles and remove excess products. I must say, this is the best shampoo I have used since I became natural! My scalp was cleaned properly, without stripping my hair of it's natural oils.

Conditioned: I applied the Design Essentials conditioner to each section, and left it in for 3-5 minutes.
I rinsed out all the product throughly with cold water, (Tip: cold water closes the cuticles and locks moisture in) and then towel-dried for about 10minutes to soak up all the excess water. Using a T-shirt to dry your is much better than using a towel because the grooves on the towel can cause breakage when rubbing against you hair. I simply just wrapped the towel around my head and it did the trick.

Leave-ins:  I sprayed the HCO Bamboo & Silk leave-in Conditioner to each section, and the Argan oil to seal. I wouldn't recommend using the leave in conditioner frequently, as it is a protein-based product and can cause the hair to become brittle if one is not careful. The Argan oil on the other hand is marvelous!

Dried: I blow dried my hair still following the same sections and using the cool air setting in order to minimize heat. I absolutely love my fro!!!!

Style: After prancing around and taking several selfies, I put my hair up in a cute updo.

And that's it for this week's wash day. I hope this post was a little helpful...
