Wash Day Experience
04:26:00The Bare Minimum
Although I've been enjoying my "Profectiv" experience, I couldn't help but notice the other hair products I had abandoned in the corner. It's important to nourish your hair with all the goodies it needs (I mean...nutrients *laughs), but also, when on a hair journey simplicity is key. Sometimes, overloading your hair with products isn't just what the hair needs, so I decided to take things down a notch and put my hair to the test. Use the least number of products to achieve the maximum effect on my hair. I wanted my hair moisturised and full and have body, even though I was going to flat iron it, I still wanted volume. Considering all these factors, it really came down to two products: Motions weightless detangling conditioner and Organics Extra Virgin Olive oil serum.I decided to co- wash since I had just relaxed my hair the weekend before, I didn't want my hair being stripped in any way or form. After co-washing, I squeezed out the excess water with my hands (no t-shirt, no towel), applied the organics serum and I air dried for about an hour or so, till my hair felt partially dry and proceeded to flat iron.
It has been a while since I used direct heat so I was a bit nervous about it especially since I was using minimal products on my hair which meant no heat protectant. I decided not to let my hair dry completely before flat ironing it, I applied a little more serum and reduced the flat iron to its lowest setting. I also switched it off occasionally when not in use to further reduce the effect of the heat. I attempted to use the comb chase method, but I just couldn't coordinate my two hands at the same time, so I decided to just hold my hair taut with one hand, and straighten with the other.
Results!
My hair felt AMAZING!!! I am so happy with how things turned out! Whoop whoop!!! I didn't leave my hair down for long, I'm very protective of my ends these days. I ended up rocking a faux bob instead.
It's funny how we can do so much with so little, given the right knowledge that is. I understand the big risk I took here in not applying heat protectant especially since I read about a girl's hair that stayed straight for five months!!! But it was worth it. I will be doing this bare minimum challenge again, can I interest you to try it?
How was your wash day? What are the least amount of products you can put on your hair?
